690 Duke R 2010

The exotic outsider just a few years ago, the Duke has long since created its own domain, including its own values. Or better said: performance values. If super athletes feared the Duke then, now it’s practically unbeatable.

To ride the Duke you need skill, courage and of course: style!

STANDARD FEATURES

CHASSIS

OVERVIEW

One look behind the scenes shows, as usual, less is sometimes more. Especially when that less is made up of such fine components as those that have long been KTM standard equipment. Have you ever expected anything less?

FRAME

A supremely innovative and super sturdy tubular space frame. Developed using the latest analysis and simulation technologies, its construction of thin walled chromium molybdenum tubes guarantees maximum tortional rigidity for excellent tracking stability at a uniquely low weight (just over 9 kg).

SEAT

A slightly graduated seat offers the rider a low seat height of 865 mm as well as perfect control and good contact with the handlebars. The passenger also has a comfortable seat behind the pilot.

BODYWORK

Puristic solutions, elaborate details and the unmistakeable characteristics of a KISKA design make this extremely slim single an eye catcher on every street. Especially typical, the ultra compact front mask with two mini halogen headlamps mounted one above the other.

WHEELS

Specially designed, light alloy wheels offer excellent manoeuvrability. And to go with them, extra sticky sports tyres.

FORKS

Racing tested fully adjustable upside-down forks from WP Suspension wit h140 mm suspension travel.

SHOCK ABSORBER

Connected to the swing arm with a Pro Lever Linkage system, it includes adjustable rebound damping and high and low speed compression damping. Made by WP Suspension.

FRONT BRAKE

Brembo braking system, with a radial master cylinder, radially mounted 4-piston brake calliper with 4 brake linings and a 320 mm disc.

REAR BRAKE

The rear wheel is slowed with the aid of a 240 mm brake disc and a floating, single piston brake calliper.

SILENCER

In addition to an optimal power output and the silencer’s favourable location for the bike’s centre of gravity, its large volume ensures a minimal noise level and the regulated catalytic converter ensures compliance with the EURO III exhaust emissions limits.

AIRBOX

Imbedded in the compact rear sub frame, the large volume air box means high performance, which, in combination with a long intake snorkel, also ensures efficient sound absorption.

SWINGARM

One piece, aluminium, die-cast swing arm. Special ribbing and various wall thicknesses were used to shape its contour to match the bending moment, resulting in optimal torsional and flexural rigidity combines with the lowest possible weight.

ENGINE

OVERVIEW

The powerful heart of the 690 Duke is its ultra modern LC4 engine with 654 cc, which is the current benchmark in the large volume, single cylinder, and four-stroke category. It is notable for its state of the art technology, low weight, very compact construction, easy maintenance and above all, for its outstanding performance data attaining an unrivalled output of 65 hp (48 kW).

OHC CYLINDER HEAD

An overhead camshaft operates the four valves by means of two weight and rigidity optimised rocker arms. In combination with the compact combustion chamber, this construction results in unrivalled performance and the greatest reliability while making servicing simple, because the cylinder head cover is mounted at an angle.

CLUTCH

The APTC™ anti hopping clutch efficiently prevents the rear wheel from chattering during braking. Under load, the system increases the pressure on the clutch linings, which, compared to conventional systems, results in a significant reduction in the hardness of the clutch springs as well as in the hand grip strength needed to operate the hydraulic clutch.

ENGINE MANAGEMENT

The LC4 engine is fuelled via electronic injection system, which features a 46 mm throttle plate cross section, automatic cold start and idle speed regulation systems, lambda control and altitude compensation. The so called EPT (Electronic Power Throttle) system produces a very homogenous power output because, in addition to the manual operation of the throttle, the position of the throttle plate is electronically controlled.

BALANCER SHAFT

The use of a central balancer shaft effectively reduces vibration to a minimum.
